Balancer has proposed an orderly wind-down of the protocol. The proposal is not yet an executed shutdown: discussion is open and a governance vote is expected September 25–29, 2026.

What could change for liquidity providers

If approved, the proposal calls for pools to transition to withdrawals-only on October 30. That would change how users interact with positions, but Balancer has said nothing changes in the protocol until the vote.

What BAL holders should know

The proposal would replace a previously approved buyback with a treasury distribution mechanism in which eligible BAL holders burn tokens for a pro-rata share of treasury assets. The first redemption window is proposed for 2027, not immediately.

What to do before acting

Check the final governance proposal and vote outcome before moving funds solely because of headlines. LPs should inventory positions, chains and pool types so they can respond if withdrawals-only mode is approved. Ignore unofficial “early redemption” or migration links.
